What ownership asks of us

Some ideas need an outside view. Others need a prototype, or a team prepared to run a business. At K2ELK, choosing our role means being clear about the work we are taking on.

Advise

Advise when the direction needs work

Sometimes the most valuable contribution is to make a difficult decision clearer. Understand the context, examine the assumptions and identify a practical next step. Good advice leaves the people responsible for the work better equipped to move it forward.

The outcome might be a focused brief, a sequence of experiments or a decision to leave an idea alone for now. The value lies in the quality of the direction and the understanding behind it.

Build

Build when there is something to test

A prototype makes a discussion tangible. A working product introduces a different set of questions: whether people can use it, whether it fits their lives and whether the underlying work can be sustained.

Bring design and engineering into the same conversation early. Keep the first version focused enough to learn from, while giving the things people rely on the care they require. A launch is one point in that process.

Own

Own when the commitment should continue

Ownership asks us to think about what happens after the initial momentum. The product will need maintenance. Customers will need attention. The company will have to make choices about people, money and time.

Different businesses need different routines. A comparison product such as ViewAlps depends on the usefulness of its information. A studio such as Recursiv depends on understanding the brief and delivering the work. Ownership should account for those differences instead of imposing the same plan on every company.

Ownership means making time for the work that continues after the first release.
